So happy to start the new year out right with an interview on one of my favorite blogs, La Mignonette. Joanna has such a beautiful eye and I was honored to share my thoughts and some unpublished photos with her, and with you.
For me, the best part about Fashion Week in NYC is that it tends to lure all sorts of exciting, stylish visitors from far away corners of the world. This past February, I finally had the chance to meet up with one of my favorite bloggers from the other side of the globe, Ms. Hannah-Rose of Capture the Castle. We spent a giddy afternoon wandering around Williamsburg on various goose-chases (some wilder than others) and eventually settled down to conduct a little interview over coffee and Tim Tams at Toby's Estate.
Hannah also asked me to put together a Top Ten list for Benah, one of my favorite Australian lines that also happens to run a really excellent blog. True to form, I decided to make everything ten times more complicated by only shooting the photos I wanted to use on film--but I'm so glad I did! I'm really happy with the results, and I hope you are too. Have a look, and leave a little love :n )
My pal Frankie has been blogging on the regs again over on her site Lawrence, and I couldn't be happier! Recently, she asked me to contribute to a roundup of little things that help get us safely and sanely through the winter months--and I'm in mighty good company! If you're feeling blue, or if that's just the color your toes have been turning lately, click over for a sneak peek at a few well-loved pick-me-ups.
Thank you all SO MUCH for the kind comments on my last entry!! You made me :n )
I've just been invited last minute on a weekend adventure out of town, so it'll be a quiet one around here. Fortunately, in case you're jonesing for more ME (you are, admit it), I did a really fun little interview with the sweet girls from Brie et Char, so if you've always wondered what my favorite iTunes radio stations are (so croosh!) or just what the hell the name of my blog means anyways (hahaha it's kinda dumb!) have a look-see (and don't forget to check out the rest of their wonderful blog as well!) And duh, have a great weekend!
The April/May edition of BUST just landed in my mailbox, and hot damn if it isn't a doozy. For one thing, I had the immense pleasure of interviewing the Ai sisters for a feature on their line Ai for Ai. Elizabeth and Carol were incredibly sweet, even after I made them sit in their sunny LA studio and listen to all my bitching about the snow in NYC (this was back in February) via Skype. Thanks ladies! I also have another little piece a few pages later all about affordable online shopping, including a shout out to Spotted Moth.
The best part of opening this issue, however, was stumbling across none other than Ashley of Fancy Fine all up in the main editorial, looking, dare I say it, both fancy and fine in a shoot that also features Hannah's gorgeous underthings. Phew, where to even start! A big congrats to both of them--and props to BUST for keeping me in such good company :n )
I recently did a short interview for Tamsin over at Miss Believer. It's been a freakishly busy week and a half, and it's certainly not over, but I'm glad I had a reason to take a moment and snap a few new photos, even if they're nothing ground breaking! Thanks Tamsin <3
My fourth and final guest post went up over on Minkette yesterday. It's been a real pleasure working with the incredibly kind people over at Rebecca Minkoff, and I'm excited to see who they'll have guest-blogging for them next!
I've been sick with a vicious cold the last several days, which is definitely a bummer, but has also given me time to do a bit of redesigning of the blog. It's subtle, but everything is a bit wider and more spaced out, which I really like. I'm also working on putting together a new banner, and I hope to return to posting much more regularly. Thanks for hangin', guys!
My third guest post went up over on Minkette today. This time, I decided to put together a few Autumnal inspiration outfits--each of which includes a gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff bag.
I really am glad that things are cooling down a bit (well actually, it's supposed to be in the 80's for the next few days...but we're reaching the end, I can feel it!) It's nice to be able to wear pants and long sleeves and not wanna punch something. Bye-bye heat rage!
Following in the (unfailingly well-clad) footsteps of Rhiannon, I'm guest blogging over on Minkette during the month of September! My first post is mostly about cookies...but also kitties and puppies! Wheee! Click through for your daily dose of twee ;n )
Check it: my friend Anja aka Miss Clever Nettle is running a seriously amazing contest over on her blog at the moment. Basically, it involves one of my greatest loves, Polyvore, and the chance to win a $1000 Visa giftcard (that's a lot! Of money! Holy jeez!)
All you have to do is visit this post and use her mini-editor to create as many pretty Fall outfits as you like. I really hope that we/she win(s), and we can totally make this happen! There's plenty more info in her post, so I wont waste your time with details, and instead just say LADIES (and gents?), START YOUR (collaging) ENGINES!!
Eep! Maya's post with photos of our hang time this weekend just went up over on Turned Out, and I love it! It's kinda sweet that she left in all my messy scribbling (though at the time she assured me she's chop it out, sneak haha!) Honestly, this is exactly the ego boost I needed right now, as I'm about to head off to a photo shoot where I'm gonna be in front of the camera, instead of scurrying around on the sidelines. Wish me luck?
Last Saturday, I rounded up a few friends and headed to the newly opened Hester Street Fair. Just as I was leaving, I bumped into Eddie (aka Mr. Newton) and he snapped my photo for his blog (one of my very faves for streetstyle.) I'm wearing a pair of vintage overalls I got in Harajuku (I was sure that they must just be Levi's or something that were brought over from the US, but they have old Japanese tags and everything!) as well as my wonderful jute bag from bOmode Vintage.
The Fair itself was really fun, relatively small but packed to the brim with things to smell, touch, buy, and more importantly EAT! I'd been dying to try a lobster roll from Luke's Lobster for ages...so I did! And then I had a ginger brew...and a fancy bacon/maple/cream cheese-filled macaroon. All that, supplemented with bites of Alex's raspberry hibiscus popsicle and pulled pork sandwich, and I was pretty much in heaven. I took some film photos with my Canon that I'll share just as soon as I get them developed.
I just came across this super fun new blog run by casting director Natalie Joos called Tales of Endearment. Ms. Joos in nuts about vintage, which happens to be a passion shared by many of her heavy-hitting friends. Recent posts include a thrifting trip with Hanneli Mustaparta, an afternoon scouring the Manhattan Vintage Clothing show with Phillip Lim, and a peek inside the closets of both Pamela Love and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Say whaaaat?? Yup! This shit is kinda blowing my mind...
I had never heard of Spanish label Masscob until reading about it on Cheri Messerli's blog Scout Holiday. Messereli styled their Spring/Summer look book, as well as the beautiful photos up top, taken by one of my favorites Lina Scheynius. Needless to say, I love everything about this...except for the fact that it doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the US! Aaaargh. Still, it's awful nice to look at.
Below is a video shot for the line by Antoine Ricardou. Sometimes I find movies like this to be a little unbearably saccharine, but this one really rubs me the right way!
I'm kind of obsessed with these scalloped shorts from The Queen's Wardrobe (and I think maybe you know why...) even though I'd probably look all kinds of frumpy in them! Ever since I saw them on Alix though, I just can't get 'em out of my head.
I love these outfits, especially that first one. This girl, she's got a knack all right. The colors, the patterns, that penguin...these photos are from Mr. Newton, but I know she was featured on at least one or two other style blogs previously. Anyone help me out??
It was love at first sight when I found these vintage tap shorts over on Anywho. Knowing that they exist for sale in a boutique somewhere in Madrid makes the fact they will never be mine all the more painful. But it got me thinking, maybe I could just make a pair myself? I've actually done a fair amount of beading work in my day, and while it would be incredibly tedious, it wouldn't be all that difficult. I figure, start out with a pair of these, do some creative tailoring, buy a crapload of cheap fake pearls and go for it!
Ok, so to be fair, the DIY aspect of this one might only extend so far as me begging my mom to knit up a bunch of tubes that I can then braid into whatever amazing head wrap/hat/yarn hair extension is going on here. Seriously, what on earth is this amazing thing?? Also, on a side note, I'm really stoked to see Nast back in business!
So Much to Tell You just reminded me of this beautifully paired-down set of out-takes from a shoot for Exit Magazine by Benny Horne that I meant to post a bit ago. I really love that black shirt. I'm so excited to wear semi-sheer tops come springtime!
P.S. Reports from the front: 1) I found RUSSH #31 at that mag shop on the corner of Spring and Lafayette, as instructed by Chelsea (thanks again!!) All I can say is that the cover is gorgeous and matte, as I've barely gotten a chance to crack it open yet! 2) I went and tried on a pair of those Steve Madden boots I mentioned in my previous post. They are gorgeous and surprisingly sturdy and well made-feeling, but I deemed them too high for daily use. Too bad, so sad.
