smell-o-vision
If only I loved perfume as much as I love perfume ads, maybe I wouldn't have such a hell of time settling on a scent! I don't know, maybe it's just having such a huge budget poured into something quite small, but so many of them seem to come out perfectly dreamy. Case in point: I'm completely obsessed with the new Love, Chloe commercial (and the song by Chemise.) Directed by Roman Coppola, it's the perfect nod to the classic '70's era Charlie ads. It just makes me wanna put on some camel pants be a career woman and have really, really bouncy hair.
Gucci also does a knock out job when it comes to their perfumes--recall Flora by Gucci and, last but certainly not least, Gucci by Gucci (by David Lynch!) Do you have a favorite perfume campaign, past or present?

Perfumes are problematic. I only really like the ones that smell like actual things, not just that gross, fake, "perfume-y" smell. Stella McCartney smells like roses, Marc Jacobs smells like tuberose, and now I'm trying YSL Parisienne on for size (courtesy of a free sample from Sephora.) It smells like blackberries and damask roses, a little sugary but I think it's growing on me. The 1 oz. size is adorable and, for once, not wildly out of my price range--just mildly.

Finding pretty, classy, affordable, underwire-free brasseries has become something of a lifelong mission on my part. I don't understand why it's so hard to find such a thing, and why ladies withbig boobs middle-of-the-road boobs should have all the frilly, lacey fun. Which is why I'm completely obsessed with Eberjey's Delirious Bralet. And it comes in A BAZILLION FREAKIN' COLORS, omg you guys, it's a tittay raaaaiiinnnbbbbooowwww!!

On one of my first days at FADER I accompanied my boss to a downtown showroom where, as part of the festivities, they were providing free manicures from OPI's new España line. Rough stuff, I know. Anyways, she chose a gorgeous dark green, almost black number called "Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow" (ah the puns! They buuurn!!) while I went with some stupid pinkish purple junk. You might say I was...green with envy???

If there's one thing I despise in cosmetics, it's that awful, frosty shimmer that sneaks into so many nail polishes and lipsticks. I want my colors pure, straightforward, unadulterated. I also want them at drugstore prices. Which is why I'm so stoked on the Revlon Matte collection. I already have Pink Pout, pictured, but I also really want the nude shade and maybe even a red?? It's no NARS Roman Holiday, but it ain't half bad either.

more than pants

I grew up in a household that fostered a great deal of love and respect for astronomy and outerspace. I remember sleeping outside in the summer to catch meteor showers at their peak, and gazing at Hale-Bopp comet through a telescope as big as I was. The cosmos are damn gorgeous, which was why I got so excited by that photo of those amazing stardust/galaxy pants.
Turns out, that was just the tip of the iceberg: apparently, Risto Bimbiloski has a whole line of amazing, outrageous galaxy printed apparel.

Space parka!

Guuuuh, I love these beyond words. Space. Shorts.

This is my favorite, and quite seasonally apropos--a night sky cashmere scarf. I would wear this every day.
Sadly, all of the many beautiful space-printed wares (bomber jacket, leggings anyone?) are more than a little out of my price range. Meaning I might have track down this Zara version instead:

All things considered, not so bad a compromise--you have to admit, it's still pretty outta this world!

grrreat!

My recently realized affection for leopard pring has become something of an embarrassment, especially considering my essentially life-long disavowal of animal prints up until this point...I know I know, it's more than a bit trendy but...oooh it just looks so good! I have an amazing vintage leopard print T-shirt dress on hold at a certain Williamsburg buy/sell/trade store that shall remain anonymous. If I go there to pick it up this weekend and find that it's been put back and sold, I think I will literally weep!
Still not going anywhere near zebra print though.
Yet.

cat power

Sweet, sweet jebus. I thought I wanted those Surface to Air buckle sandals ever since I saw this photo on Garance Doré...until today, when I found out they're making them in leopard print.

This takes it to a completely new, uncharted level of obsession. Oh cruel world!! This is 100% the kind of shit I would "invest" in, if I had anything remotely resembling an "income".

f**ked in the head

I know I know, it's bad enough that I have to ruin just about every magazine in existence for myself by skulking around the internet, obsessively seeking out scans...I shouldn't try and take you all down with me! Which is why I swear I'm not going to go crazy posting scans from the newest Lula (besides, you're perfectly capable of ruining it for yourselves I'm sure!)
But I had to post just a few from this editorial, my absolute favorite that I've seen so far (and they're all GOOD, no joke. I feel like this might be the best issue since the one guest edited by Kirsten Dunst.) It all feels very William Eggleston to me. Loooove.
But that's all...for now. Aaaah, god I'm sick. Go on without me!! Save yourselveeeeeesss...

Suddenly, I feel like I could do with a little bit of leopard print in my life. Not too much, just a splash. It's definitely a pattern that toes the line between class and tack, but when you get it right, it just looks like so much damn fun. Some ideas (click for info):

I really love the subtle addition of line drawings in these photos, not too overpowering and not too cutesy (just cutesy enough.) Also those Chloé shorts. Siiiiiiiigh.

I am absolutely determined to find myself a pair of these badboys for Fall (/now! I'm way in to shorts with ankle boots, sweaty feet be damned.)

Bring it
Honestly, I have my doubts as to the longevity of "It's On..."

But I'd be lying if I said that having a new Alexa outfit to dissect four days a week wasn't quickly becoming a new obsession...

The brilliant Kara alerted me to this preview of the newest issue of RUSSH:
Yep, needs it!
Also, RUSSH now has its very own tumblr. One word: OHHELLSYES!

Ave Maria

I don't think I could ever say enough about my love for Maria Schneider, especially in her roles in two of my favorite movies, The Passenger and Last Tango in Paris.
Her wardrobe in these two films essentially sums up everything I would like to wear, and the sort of person I would like to be, forever and always. I kinda loathe the phrase "style icon," so let's just says she's my...sartorial superwoman?? (Yeah, that might actually be worse.)
