Home in the islands for a while, hunkered down, ploughing my way through Jane Eyre, wooing shy felines and baking big chocolate cakes. Hope your 2012 thus far has been as magical, and then some, as this torso-sized amethyst I saw on the top of Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina in 2011. Strange, strange magics indeed!

I'm a little late posting these, but here's a couple shots from a shoot I assisted on a few weeks ago. The stylist pulled some amazing Matina Amanita jewelry, including this crazy-ass owl cuff! He also had more big sparkly rings than you could shake a stick at. Blingggg.
In other exciting jewelry news, I came home today to find a package from Kathryn, aka the Vamoose, waiting for me! I sent her a little care package of big silky shirts and Japanese treats a little while back, and the gorgeous bounty I received in return filled me with both wonder and amazement. Pictures soon!

Spotted (ha, literally!!): a pair of mighty Alexander Wang-ish leopard print pumps, from Luxe de Ville on Etsy. Woulda snapped these up in a second if a) I had the dough and b) I thought I could cram my feet into them. Size 6.5's, rejoice!

I first heard about Thomsen a few months ago while transcribing an interview between my boss and Franck Cohen, one third of the French line's design team. Apparently, it all started because stylist Alix Thomsen, another third of the team (and pictured above) had trouble finding the sort of tasteful, long dresses she liked to wear. At the same time, Lionel Bensemoun, the final third of the puzzle and the man responsible for popularizing American Apparel in France, decided he'd had enough of t-shirts and wanted to create menswear that had the smart fit of Thom Browne tailoring, but was as comfortable as the ubiquitous deep-V.
For spring they've gotten their hands on some really sweet Liberty prints, which is simultaneously a total classic and kinda the fabric-du-jour. That first look is so amazing, I want to be wearing right now, even though I am in bed and will presently be passing out. Don't even care. Want it all.For an extra treat, Check out Alix and Lionel's amazing Parisian apartment, via En Suite.
I didn't watch the Oscars, but I did lurk around after the fact looking at the dresses, of course! What an excellent surprise to see someone wearing my favorite dress from Couture this year. Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture, ftw!
Part 1 of a video interview that Spike Jonze conducted with Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, owners and co-founders of Opening Ceremony. Crazy to think that it all started with $20,000 and a trip to Asia. Man, what a dream these two live now! I'm still kicking myself that I didn't check out the Opening Ceremony store in Tokyo, we walked right by the front door but Parco was calling my name...
I absolutely love this cover (Abbey Lee Kershaw/Vogue Nippon February 2010.) The colors just make me so dang happy. Holy crap, I cannot wait for spring...or at very least for the spring editorials to start rolling out!P.S. I officially reached 500 followers over on Bloglovin' today. That's crazy you guys! Thank you so much, every last one of you, Bloglovin' lovers or not. So I guess this might be a bit redundant, but in order to properly "claim" my blog, I have to remind you to follow my blog with bloglovin. No pressure though ;n )
You know how some people claim that they just sorta roll out of bed and put on the first things they pick up off their floor? Yeah well, if you were Valentine Fillol-Cordier, you might just happen to grope your way into a pair of Charles Anastase platforms and then proceed to blow my mind. Ho-leee smokes!(photo found here)
I don't think I will ever get tired of buying nail polish. It's silly, I know, a waste of money, no question. But even though I have a whole sack of shiny little bottles in my bathroom cabinet, I just can't be stopped. I love the way they look all lined up on a drugstore shelf; I feel the same way looking at tubes of paint or fresh, unsharpened colored pencils.
Even though working at American Apparel may have kind of killed the company for me, I am SO DOWN with this new nailpolish line they've got going on. I can't speak to the quality since I've yet to actually sample it, but the colors are amazing, seriously, I'm flipping out. And from what I can tell they are solid, none of that shimmer crap (well ok there might be some in that last one, too soon to tell)!! So so into that whole top row.

My immediate favorites are Office and Palm Springs, above, but seeing as they come 3 for $15, I might have to add Rose Bowl to the mix.

So I know that the post-Thanksgiving-dinner-eat-yourself-and-your-butt-into-oblivion-haze is a rough time to be talking about swimwear of all things...BUT, these babies are soooo worth it! My post about the new Australian line of one-pieces called We Are Handsome is up over on the FADER blog, and they are, quite frankly, fierce. And I do not use that word lightly.
