news from aweigh

Here I am, writing you from inside a tiny cabin, inside a big old forest, on a tiny island, in the cold cold sea. Not a lot of news to report from out here, except my parents have gotten a freezer so now we can ice cream whenever we want, which is some sort of crazy luxury out here let me tell you!

Anyways, please enjoy this picture of me feeling extremely skeptical about a huge leopard print hat, taken by Patrick on one of our antiquing trips in Anacortes the other day.

s-hat

If a face could talk, this one would say "thanks but no thanks, chump." Now of course I kinda wish I had bought it.

it's the final countdown

hannevogueitalia

This is essentially how I'm imagining my (and perhaps your??) night ending, somewhere in the wee hours of the morning. Only I'll be wearing a lot more black and a lot more sparkles and some bright red lipstick.

See you all on the other side!!

So, I know it's the middle of November and all, but try as I might I can't seem to get Spring off my mind. My brain's a big mess of light, soft fabrics--khakis and olives and blues and creams, with touches of braided leather and flat sandals...ok, so I guess maybe I just have Chloé to blame?? But anyways, maybe that's why, when I see an editorial like this one, which is purportedly meant to be, quote, "a view on Kenzo fall winter collection" all I can think is ooooh, Spring! Florals! Bunnies and babychicks!! Hooray!!!!!

Or maybe it's that I just got done planting a dozen daffodil bulbs in our back yard? By the time those things come up I'll probably be all excited for Fall again. Actually, no, I doubt it. You can see the rest of this lovely editorial, featuring Elsa Sylvan, which I found on Fashion Gone Rogue, right here.

Fair but not Square

So I go away for a couple weeks to some distant island paradise, and what sort of a stunt do my housemates pull in retribution??

Bear Hug

Somehow, I sort of missed out on the whole Grizzly Bear craze. Maybe it's the rock I've been living under for the past several months, or all that sand I've had my head buried in recently? Really gotta knock that off...I mean, yeah I heard they slayed at SxSW etc etc, but I guess I just sort of brushed them off as having a cool name that I wish I had cornered first.

Which is why I feel a little stupid admitting how obsessed I am with this song/video. Because it's totally amazing, right? Yeeeeeah, ok, I get it now guys...

Photographic evidence of my 30 second shotgun engagement to my pal Steve, or an innocent case of platonic wristband application? You make the call.

The Rain, the Post Office and Other Things

Yesterday was rainy and--gasp--borderline cold! I mean, not COLD cold, but cold for now cold. Comparatively cold. Hat-wearing cold? Jeez, I've really lost all sense of scale here.

I couldn't believe it when I found this dress at a second hand shop a few days ago. It needed some ruffle removal on the front to make it look a mite bit less nightgowny/like it was made for an 8 year old (which I think it probably was...), but now it's just perfect! It's also a lot more green than it is grey, oh accurate white balance how you elude me...

This bag was another great score. I've been wanting a tote that wasn't of the ubiquitous dirty white canvas variety, of which I already have several. This one also happens to be frickin' ENORMOUS. Seriously, a litter of kittens could be birthed in this thing (...? That's the best anecdote I could come up with?)

I'm also REALLY digging my new Barbie pink nail polish. It's "Sweet Tart" by Revlon, and it is available at a fine K Mart location near you!

Also, can I just take a moment here to say wow wow WOW, thank you all so much for the incredibly kind, positive, blush-inducing comments on the previous entry. I wish I could give each and every one of you a beautiful chambray dress, a big hug, and a sloppy ol' kiss!

I've always been more of a cat person myself (though I wouldn't say no to a pack of Westies á la photo #3), and I'm pretty indifferent as to the clothes, but I figured these were way too good not to share!

A few pages from the 1978 edition of the yearbook for my bf's alma mater. I found it in a thrift store a few blocks from my house, and gave it to him for Christmas. It's pure gold! Hopefully someday I'll get around to scanning more of it...

Eerrie Indiana

So, much to my surprise, I seem to have survived my dental ordeal. All things considered I'm feeling pretty decent...but damn if I'm not sick of pudding already! Thanks so much for all the well-wishes and advice :n )

Spending the afternoon sleepily browsing around, I came across a label called Maise.

Looking at their pretty, hazy photos got me all inspired, but since I'm in no shape to be standing up, let alone dressing up, I spent a couple hours coming up with these polyvore wishlists instead:

I definitely want to get my hands on one of those army green parkas I keep seeing everywhere, they seem like the perfect in-between weather coat (aside from a classic trench, which I so far have been unable to procure.)

I also really want a pair of low motorcycle boots. I've spent several years under the assumption that I'm not nearly tuff enough to rock them, but heck, I've conquered ripped tights, why not biker boots? Why not the world!? Ooof, ok, I think the Vicodin is starting to talk...

Big Top

Ooook, I know.

Photobucket

I said I wasn't gonna buy anymore blouses until I found some more bottoms...but last weekend, after buying the shorts at Beacon's (see I did good, right?), I wandered into a little vintage store, and, well, darn it can you blame me???

This thing is the happiest, brightest, goofiest kind of plaid AND it's got a little bowtie at the neck. Long story short, I caved. Hard. So sue me. (No, really. Legal action is probably the only way I'll ever learn.)

Ponch-ooohhh

Ever have one of those days when you're just so completely exhausted for no good reason that your eyeballs throb and all you want to do is curl up in your favorite poncho and sleep a thousand sleeps but instead you have to do your music homework and then take an hour and half train ride to the furthest reaches of Brooklyn to attend a three hour lecture on Schubert, Schumann and Schoenberg?

Photobucket

Today is DEFINITELY one of those days.

P.S.
Thank you all SO MUCH for the sweet words of congratulations on my last post! I passed them along to my bf and he smiled some seriously adorable smiles.

I feel like this is probably one of those outfits I look at and think "man, that girl looks crazy-awesome!" while most dudes look at her and think "man, that girl...looks crazy."

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Promotional

Yup, that's me, age seventeen, on my way to Senior Prom wearing the dress I had Rowan posing in a few posts down.

Look at my freakin' hair! I'd been blonde(ish) my whole life, and then one night I decided I wanted to dye it brown. Just like that. It ended up turning out almost black. It was so strange to look into a mirror and barely even recognize myself at first! By this time it had started to fade out a bit, and over the next several years I would go from brown back to blonde and then red, making pit stops at nearly every shade in between.

Oh man guys, my hair and I, we've been through a lot...it took a helluva long time and an awful lot of dollars and tears to settle on my current incarnation. I think I'll be sticking with it for a good long while.

These are photos that I took of my friend Rowan when I was sixteen or seventeen. That was quite a few years ago, but somehow I feel like they sort of fit in with the dark, Gothic overtones that are currently so permeating the fashion world.

But really, they mostly just make me laugh. We were only kids, but we were sooo serious!

(Coincidentally, this is also the dress I wore to senior prom!)

If that's movin' up then I'm you-know-what

Hi friends! No doubt two or three of you are wondering just where it is I've got off to. Well, I'll tell ya, I've been neither here nor there: I've been moving. Not out of New York, not even out of Brooklyn, just to a different hood. Everything is in complete chaos. This morning I was up East 93rd way buying a second hand IKEA bed frame from a British guy, and tonight I am boiling water in a sauce pan to make tea. But the new place is huge and amazing.

Now pretty much all I need to do is paint, and the place might finally start feeling like home. Perhaps one or two of those same two or three concerned souls may also be wondering––Ringo, how on earth do you follow up glorious yellow, nay, Citrus Zest walls? Two words: Mint Green. Or, more precisely, Parsnip, which any novice farmer will tell you are actually off-white. But hey, what the hell does Behr know anyways?

Holy hell (in heels)

Somebody, anybody, have mercy! PLEASE buy these so I can't!!!

Oops

I seem to have disappeared again. Anyways, this is what I wore to school today.

Aw guuuys, I'm so so sick of all of my clothing! It's gotten to one of those points where I just never look the way I want to anymore, you know what I mean? It's a bummer, all right. Getting dressed every day feels like a struggle in the midst of a battle I am rapidly losing.

Also, I am afraid I am NOT one of those people who is excited for cold weather. I would like for it to become cool enough for me to wear clothing of some sort without wanting to have myself frozen Han Solo style, yes, but if I never put on another pair of tights in my LIFE, it would be too soon.
