...for the beauty, the splendor, the wonder of my...
I've gotten a few questions about my hair lately, and I thought I'd make a little post to address the inquiries properly! I wish I had some juicy secrets to share with you, but sadly, the only special treatment I lend my locks is that I never, ever blow dry it. It can be a sort of a bitch having to plan showers to allow ample time for air drying, but it really is worth it. Heat is a hair killer!
Also, I do color my hair (and it's getting to be dyin' time again as you can see from the above photo!) My hair is naturally the sort of mousy blondish brown that looks good on pretty much no one, so I give it a kick in the pants with Herbal Essences Bold 'n Brilliant Color in #54 Amber Shimmer. However, it fades pretty fast, so the color that you generally see on my head is not what comes directly out of the box, but a slightly washed out, sun-bleached version.
Other than that, my bath products are kind of a crap shoot. I'm most likely to go for whatever shampoo is on sale and splurge on a slightly nicer conditioner. Right now I'm using this Pantene Nature Fusion stuff which I've been quite pleased with. I don't really use any product, though I used to be obsessed with that John Frieda Ocean Waves spray, until they discontinued it (hence the WTF pricetag!) And I do indeed cut my own hair and bangs, but all that jazz will have to wait for a proper video tutorial...
And just for fun:
A photo from several years ago when I had a really crap rendition of the Jane Fonda shag. It got soooooo much more mullet-y than this before I was finished...

I miss that john frieda stuff so much! why'd it go away??
i totally agree, heat is a killer for hair. i avoid it at all costs and whenever people ask what's the secret to my hair i always say less is more. too much harsh dying, heat and styling weakens it.
btw i kind of the the two toned thing you got right now.
Oohhh, I'm so bad. I heat the crap out of my hair. I avoid the blow dryer like the plague (UGH that noise) but I am addicted to hot rollers and curling irons. It is this pin straight mop, I just want curls or waves!
hahah i totally feel you on having to allot time to air dry hair... sometimes i get so impatient that i run out the door with icky damp hair!
Haha, I always go out with wet hair even in the middle of winter. Heat makes my hair frizzy and for the most part I'd rather go out with damp hair than spend however long it takes to blowdry my hair cause it's thick.
SUCH a beautiful dress. & your hair is indeed rather lovely. You look so different with brown hair, craziness. I used to always air dry my hair & then I discovered the diffuser and never looked back! Such lovely photos...
You should try Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray. I never tried the J Frieda stuff, but I'm guessing it's really similar. It's like $25/bottle, but it's totally worth it. Also it's apparently what ~*the Olsen twins*~ use.
Your hair is awesome! It has that perfect in-between wavy and straight, beachy kinda vibe.
I also don't to anything to my hair. The only difference is, my hair sucks.
I'm so envious of your hair! I am also a mousy blonde, but have resolved not to put any chemicals on it after the level of frying it took to bring it from dyed black back to blonde-ish. Half of my hair is still so frizzy and fried, I could never get away with an air dry.
Is your drugstore box dye relatively gentle? I want to go lighter, but am scared now.
Thank you for the reminder not to use heat on my hair! I have been naughty lately and using the blow dryer (it's winter here in Australia and wet hair + freezing cold = no fun) I have been thinking about going blond - thanks for the hair inspiration!
my FAVORITE hair stylist ever actually told me the exact opposite - heat isnt nearly as damaging as home hair color!
BUT she does work for a salon .. and probs just wanted me to get my hair professionally done? oh! dilemma.
oh man, you had to remind me how much I used to love the John Frieda spray. I have been tempted to try the bumble & bumble version, it sounds like it's similar (although much more expensive than the Frieda spray, when it was actually available)
Corrie: my box dye is pretty gentle, I've been using it every couple of months for at least two years now and my hair is still quite strong, I do get split ends but it's not falling out or anything (knock on wood!)
Lexie: I wouldn't be at all surprised if the stylist was right (though it probably also depends on the intensity/the amount of bleach in the hair color), but I think she would probably also agree that a combination of both heat AND haircolor would be the worst, and since I do color, I figure cutting out the heat is the best way to save my sad locks? Though I don't know why salon hair color would all that much less damaging than the home stuff? I mean it would probably be made from higher quality ingredients (at least it better be, for the price!) but eh, who knows, I'm no expert that's for sure!
yeah, def give the bumble and bumble surf spray a shot. It's quite similar (my sis used to use the Frieda, I use the B&B), and the bottle kind of lasts forever.
