Springing in Love

Oh man you guys, it was a really nice day today (oops, I guess it's yesterday now!)

Sadly, I didn't really get to enjoy it as I would have liked, since I had to spend most of the afternoon inside working on a paper, then evening in class. Fortunately, the paper is about a movie I really love, An Angel at My Table (if you haven't seen it, you've just gotta! It's by the same woman who directed The Piano.)

So, in protest, I put on my new shorts (the product of an overall less-than-fruitful trip to Beacon's Closet this weekend. Seriously, why do I bother???), somethin' white and roomy, and dreamed up a world where I wouldn't have to eventually change into something a little more apropos of sitting in a drafty classroom for three hours, emerging well after sundown to a long cold subway ride home.

Speaking of new things, I went hog wild in Sephora this weekend and splurged on some glorious new perfume.

Falling in Love, by Philosophy. After smelling it for the first time last summer (sorry Amy I touched your stuff), I decided immediately that this was pretty much all I wanted to smell like, ever again. It's so sweet and fruity and warm and makes me think of ripe blackberries and sand between your toes.

It's taken me this long to finally break down and just BUY the stuff, I have such an absolute terror of purchasing new, shiny, silly things (old, shiny, silly things, now that's another story), even though at $15 I'm pretty sure it's one of the cheapest things you can find in that stinkin' place...

Your description of zah new perfume makes me super curious! I think I need to be finding myself a perfumerie to experience these blackberries+sand.

Mmm the perfume sounds yummy! Do you have any tips in finding one's personal scent?

Falling in Love is by far my favorite scent and all I usually ever wear. I adore your description of it (it's true!)

My, you are a lucky lady it only cost that much!

I've known exactly two perfumes I've ever wanted to positively reek of: Marc Jacobs' Ivy and l'air de rien which is Jane Birken's creation. One is discontinued, the other I could finance my summer wardrobe with. Fuck my life, man.

Those sleeveless blouses (especially striped ones) always remind me of my mom. Actually, you are dressed exactly like my mom in her early twenties. Loves it.

ha! siri i love you, you can wear my perfs anytime! and speaking of touching one another's things, i found a mascara i believe to be yours (some kind of maybelline?) in my makeup bag while i was in miami. i'm assuming it fell out of your bag and a dumb boy didn't know one girl's lash stuff from another's!

Sunset: I don't have too many tips, since I'm actually pretty hopeless when it comes to picking scents...but maybe I'll do a little post on that soon?

E.K.: I can honestly say that it was completely incidental! I'm too broke to buy proper shelves so I have all my LP's lined up on the floor, and I always have to move a stack to take my photos. Space Oddity just happened to appear...but I wont say I wasn't pleased!

CAITLIN: Man, I can't believe I've never been to that Beacon's Closet (the OTHER Beacon's Closet!) I used to live so much closer to it than I do now...someday, someday.

That's so funny! Bowie records always add charm to a photo. My wife and I had taken photos of our apartment. One image was of our record player and records and Low by Bowie happened to be clearly visible!
