I've been in a state of financial paralysis recently, waiting for freelance checks to materialize in my mailbox. It's been a while since I've felt like I could splash out on new socks, let alone anything mildly pretty or impractical. Thankfully, however, I seem to continue to find ways to squeeze milk from the stone, and all three items above are recent acquisitions on credit from Buffalo Exchange and Beacon's Closet.

The trousers are actually a pair originally from Urban Outfitters by Lark & Wolf that I was obsessed with this spring but could never justify buying full price, so I was mighty excited to find them at Buffalo Exchange--the same day I came across this vintage Laura Ashley blouse. It's so long I can almost pass it off as a dress, and when I tried it on with some cutoffs around the house, the tails were hangin' loose out the leg holes. Maybe not such a good look? But I'll worry about that come warmer climes. The hat is from Beacon's, and I'm starting to feel like it might be the kind of thing I can only really pull off when it's finally so cold out that people start wearing things that look like live animals on their heads. Or maybe when I finally turn into Queen Latifah. Whichever comes first, I guess.

Feeling you on the financial paralysis - strange to realise that all my socks have holes in and I can't buy any new ones until a cheque clears. Yesterday I was reminiscing about the olden days of jumble sales when things would cost 2 or 5 pence - glory days...but yes, where there's a will there's a way...

Yeah, I'm in need of new socks and some hard cash too, spent three hours at a jumble sale trying to sell my wares during the week actually but the organiser hadn't postered for it so I just managed to sell a scarf and a blouse, at jumble prices of course.

Anyways, onto to the outfit, I wouldn't have looked at this twice on the rail, its a very early 90s Laura print and with all the florals over here at the moment i've been putting off buying them. But I love them them with these simple bottoms. What an inspired colour combo! You rock this!

Is it not cold there yet? I've heard about the infamous New York winters. Brrrr!

Super cute styling! Isn't it the best when you find something you've been lusting after on sale or at a thrift? I hope your mailbox is brimming with checks soon!

Is it a turban? It kinda looks like one! Those look so chic on some people, but I know I could never pull one off.

Zoë: It is quite cold here now, but this was taken on a nice sunny day. Haha, and yeah I guess I'm also not wearing shoes, but that's just because I haven't figured out what the heck kind of sturdy winter shoe to wear with trousers since I really don't like how they look with boots and I want something with a bit of a heel (though if I found a really great pair of Ferragamo oxfords I would not turn up my nose...)

bigfea: it's not really a turban per se...it's more structured and tall, like an overgrown pillbox hat if that makes sense? Heh, whatever it is, it's kinda ridiculous, but it sure keeps my head extremely warm!

Siri, when you'll figure out what kind of winter shoes/boots work with trousers, please let me know! I'm used to wear my boots over my pants, but it looks pretty silly unless I'm wearing fairly tight pants or tights... Kind of like early renaissance-British colony in India riding pants look, if you know what I mean!
