WORK

I'm looking for a job.But seriously though...

I try, as a rule, to keep the more boring/tedious parts of my life off this blog (I save those for passive-aggressive facebook updates!) Today, however, I'm coming to you with a plea for help. Friends, countrymen, here's the bottom line: I need a job! A paying job, in New York City, to be exact.

Now, I know I'm not alone in this predicament, these days especially. Which is why I feel a bit funny asking for your help, it seems a bit presumptuous and strange I guess. But things have been kind of rough around here lately, and I have to admit, I could sure use a hand (or two or three!)

The majority of my experience up to this point has been in the fashion/magazine biz, including stints with Havanna Laffitte, BUST and FADER, but I also have several years of retail, food service and library experience to boot (edit: oooh and there's that BA in Film Studies I just finished, almost forgot!!)

If you know of anything that a writer/blogger/vintage shoe enthusiast such as myself might be able to do around here to earn some bread and butter, if you know of anyone I might get in touch with, or even if you only have a word or two of advice, I would be endlessly grateful if you could email me at the email on my profile or sirithorson@gmail.com.

hope you find a job! by the way, are you scandinavian? siri thorson doesn't sound very american? my name is siri too and i'm from sweden. just wondering...

Hi Siri! Haha that's true, though sadly I'm just another Yank myself. My grandmother is actually the one who chose my name, and her family is Swedish going way back. My paternal grandfather is Norwegian in heritage I believe, which is where I get the Thorson from.

Anyways, I'd always thought Siri was Swedish, but the other day I told that to a bonafide Swede and she said she'd never heard of it in Sweden and that she thought it sounded more Norwegian! I thought my whole life might have been a lie, but you've reassured me so thank you!!

And marie, it can't hurt to try right? Here's wishing luck the both of us! Seriously :n )

Good luck! I'm in the same boat - halfway through a journalism degree and the student loans are getting ridiculous. Sorry I can't help much - I saw a posting at Nylon for an intern in NY, but chances are that's already gone and probably wouldn't pay much anyway... Might be worth a google?
Best!

I'm sure you already know this (since I feel like I see it advertised everywhere) and as you haven't jumped on the train already leads me to believe you're not so much up for it, BUT I know that AA is looking for employees like mad (at least in Canada) so even if it's not your thang, it's a job and it's slack haha. anyway, if you didn't know, now you do!

good luuuuck - job hunting majorly blows.

Have you thought about monetizing your blog? Or freelance writing online for different sites?

Good luck, girl. I don't know if this is going to sound totally crazy, but you know Baggu? The other day I was clicking around Flickr and I realized that Jessica Williams works there, and she's cool... anyway I went to their website and in the FAQ section (http://baggubag.com/#/Faq/) there was a thing saying they're always looking for people. Maybe a total crazy longshot but they seem like a pretty good company.

I feel ya. I'll be looking for a part time job once I start interning somewhere up there.

Good god, I can relate to this post so much. I've been interning like a madwoman hoping someone would hire me! Hasn't happened yet.

Woe is me.

You seem to have a pretty popular blog that probably gets a decent amount of traffic. What about having ads on here? Either google ads or renting out space for little indie businesses? May not pay the rent right away but could help? Just a thought...
