Fantastisch

I don't quite know how to feel about this...I remember the first rumors of this project's existence circulating many moons ago, back when I was a lonely freshman in college and an avid Yankee Racer. At the time, both The Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited were looming on the more immediate horizon, and I had sort of stored this one away in the back corner of my mind.

The trailer makes it look maybe a little too "hip" and wacky for my liking, but after all trailers are meant to sell movies to as broad an audience as possible. In any case, I will undoubtedly be seeing this. But then I'm one of those crazy fools who believes that any man who brought us Rushmore can do no real wrong.

aw I always get so excited when I find somebody who loves Wes Anderson as much as I do (don't make me show you my team zissou halloween costume. Or the Christmas cards I made using shrinky dinks of the Tennenbaums and the crayon horsefish).

I heard from somebody who's seen the movie that it is very typical Anderson, but there's no way to market it because it's essentially a very deadpan kids movie. I'm thinking they tried to put the more "universally funny" things in the trailer to try to appeal to a broader audience. I mean, if you look at the trailer for the royal tenenbaums it looks like a slapstick.

The one thing that is off for me is George Clooney's voice. I dunno,it sounds too much like him and it's distracting. I wish they could have gotten a voice actor, but then again I guess Georgie brings in the $$

AFitz: My Wes-coreness really peaked a few years ago, but I am nevertheless still a steadfast superfan. The Royal Tenenbaums is probably one of the biggest reasons I decided I wanted to be a film major. I totally agree about the trailer, trailers are pretty much always total bs as far as I can tell, they're put together by a marketing team, not by the filmmaker, and their purpose is to sell the film on as many different levels as possible. Sometimes I forget that and I need a little slap in the face. I also find Clooney's voice off-putting, I even feel a little funny about J'Man and Murray, but I don't mind so much because it just sort of makes it extra funny on some level. I do like Streep's voice though. Eh, anyways!

Oh, and my handle was "blinuet", but I haven't been on in so long I don't even know if I can post anymore. All this Wes talk has got me riled up again though!

Suzy: Goldblum is totally not in the film! And that is a total fail on my part. Or should I say wishful thinking?

I too do not know how i feel about this.

wes anderson= great film maker
roald dahls Fantastic Mr Fox = the story i grew up with in text and audio tape. LOVED it.

the film = could be a disaster OR could be a hit

I think the fact that wes anderson is doing it means it is going to be a good piece of film but the fact the george clooney is playing Mr Fox is THE WORST THING that could have happened.

George Clooney has a recognisable voice which is distinctly AMERICAN.

The Sly and Fantastic Mr Fox is BRITISH! I do not understand...

All the animal voices are american yet boris bunce and beans are all played by english voice actors. it seems a little disjointed.

I have written more about this on my own blog so i will stop boring you and you can read it there if you want.

all in all I will still be seeing this at the cinema. maybe even the premiere (it is opening this years BFI film festival) lets go together.

dern it! i was hoping i missed something and his smooth, deep, wonderful voice was still a part of it. bah. oh, and this is toootally going to disappoint people who were more excited about their favorite children's book coming to life. i don't know if i mentioned that above, but there's my stance. i remain stoked, nevertheless, about anything he or Noah Baumbach touch.
