Rollin' rollin' rollin'

I don't know if I've ever mentioned this but I am, in fact, a film student. When people ask me why I'm studying film, I'm sometimes at a loss. I'm not one of those people who is driven to "get into the business". I'm not even really certain I want to make movies, although for the most part I've enjoyed the small student films I've worked on.

The thing is, I've never had a set career goal in mind. I'm not one of those people, like my oldest sister, who knew she wanted to be a teacher since the fifth grade. When it came time to choose a major a few years ago, towards the end of my career at UCSC, I was still as lost as the day I'd graduated high school. And now, three years later, I'm still just as lost, if not more so!

So for me, studying film is just learning more about something I love and appreciate: movies. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been so fascinated by them. They can affect me in very powerful ways, and when I see one I love, I can become completely swept away and immersed in it. I live, breath, eat and sleep it, I see the world through the eyes of its characters, I step to the beat of its soundtrack, and sometimes it can be very difficult to shake.

I'm not in the running to be the next Spielberg or Gondry or Ridley Scott. Nor would I want to be. I'm just curious, that's all.

I like your outfit here. Particularly the shirt. Anyways, my best friend is completely obsessed with movies, which means that I, in turn, end up watching a lot of movies too. What's your favourite movie?

oh and p.s. hi, i forget how i found your blog, but its really interesting!

that's about the same way i feel about photography and why i went to school to study it. i never planned to become a photographer as my career, just loved taking pictures and learning about art. and i still do. here's to doing what you love in life!

I also would like to know your favourite movie...?
and for me it's the same. I don't like to study something just because I want to get a job in this business, just want to study because I want to learn more about something.

isn't enjoying it the most important part? i've wanted to be an illustrator since forever and a day ago, but only in the last few years did i shed that feeling of never being able to support myself, that i should really try do something else and leave art on the side...i'll probably be slogging retail forever to pay the bills, but, happily.

i wish you the best in all you do! i wish inspiration-ist or muse was a paying career, you would be good at it! i'm totally pumped now we will succeed, ehe!

I also studied film and media studies for 2 years A-levels, when I got to choosing courses for colleges and uni, I dint know what to do, I changed my mind up to 6 times, I'm now in my first year of college studying a course that relates to multimedia, computer games and film editing, and I seem to be enjoying it, I 'm not sure what am going to do with it when I finish though. I guess whats really important is that you enjoy what your're doing. Nice blog btw:)

Finally someone as confused as myself. Both my older sisters have seen to know where their lives will take them since kindergarten. Also, slick outfit.

katherine--well, in any case, I'm glad you found me, and I'm glad you like the blog!

vanessa--I'm so glad you understand! Photography is something else that I desperately want to learn more about, I know the basics, but I've never actually gotten to develop my own prints or anything. I keep butting up against stupid prerequisites (I know what the color wheel is, I know how to shade a sphere ok!) whenever I try and sneak into a photo class, but hopefully it will happen soon.

chaolita--exactly! And there really is no specific business I'm looking to get into at this point, so what's the use?

elise--oh man, the retail slog. That's the real downside here. But I'll do what I gots to do I suppose. I should start putting up flyers, muse for hire, will work for cupcakes and orange soda...

chic--Agh, yes, I have changed my mind so many freakin' times! I'm just kind of interested in so very many things, but not one central, big, MAJOR. Maybe I should be one of those funny kids who "builds their own major"? Or maybe that was just a Santa Cruz thing...

horse--I AM SO CONFUSED. Always. It's a bit of strain, but it certainly makes things more interesting I suppose, right? Har. Older sisters are enraging sometimes like that, aren't they? And thank you :n )

wow. that's exactly the way I felt when I was a pre-film major. I think I explained it at the party..or maybe not, but I ended up having to change my major for transfer reasons. I'm now Rhetoric major, but I'm sort of find with that too since it's so broad. Anyway, yeah, this pretty much sums up why I was a film major though.

oh boy, i am in the archives to-night! lurking about my favorite blogs as a means of inspiration to restart my own, i suppose.

boy, do i feel you on this subject; only i misunderstood my passion entirely and thought i needed to be in the damn pictures. assuming my destiny awaited onscreen until i was 21 had to have been the biggest waste of my life. i don't even like actors, what was i thinking exactly? i'm now 23 and still deciding where to go to college. sheesh.

and regarding your harold and maude post; i got choked up hearing even the polyphonic spree's (i think?) cover of "trouble" in thumbsucker. and i didn't really like the movie all that much, aside from the swinton. we're just a couple-a saps, dude.
