Hire me!

Oh brother, do I ever need a job. Pounding the pavement has so far proved useless, and craigslist is just a tease. It seems like all the jobs I would really like are unpaid internships, and I have no space for anything unpaid at the moment besides school, much to my chagrin. What's a girl to do?

What do you do for a living? How did you get your start?

i studied political science, graduated way too fast (3 years), moved to new york and now work at a television commercial production company. i found it thru c-list nyc but its such a toss up.
my advice is don't get a real job for as long as you can. have some fun and try not to think about where something will lead. those thoughts only get you a job that doesn't make you happy. look at me, i'm 22 in new york and all i want to do is craft all day.

can you waitress? that has always carried my thru rough patches...

your wing tips should convince them! they scream "good hire material."

This is exactly the way I felt when I was in school (incidentally, I went to school in NYC as well). I worked as a waitress for a bit, sold things on ebay for spending money.. but mainly tried to focus on school. When I graduated I worked at a boutique in Brooklyn while simeltaneously doing an internship at Adorn magazine. That was supremely difficult, as the internship was unpaid. But it did pay off! Adorn hired me :) I've been working here (paid) for about two months now...

What about babysitting? some of those UES families pay great money...

Are you good at a certain subject area? You could tutor. It's very flexible and it usually pays well.

Hmmm. If you're not getting anything anyway, maybe something unpaid would be a good long-term investment. I mean, if you're looking for a job with no success and not making money while doing it, while not make money while possibly making some connections too. Does that make sense?
