LATE SEPTEMBER FAVORITES

Exhibit A: Gorgeous shibori dyed crop-top by Upstate x Of A Kind. Yup, it's still hot enough in NYC to wear crop tops, and cutoffs, and for bangs to be drenched in sweat (which is why you can't see them in this photo...) The upside is that I still have time to get some wear out of this beauty. Thank you Kalen!

Exhibit B: I found this framed print by Gladys Emerson Cook in Junk a few weeks ago now, but managed to put on a brave face and valiantly fight off temptation. It only took six days for me to realize that I needed it, immediately. Three stops on the L and a panicked ransacking of the store later, and I was sheepishly peeling off its price-tags before bringing it home.

Gone to Earth by Mary Webb, Seventh impression March 1937. I finally finished this book last night after several years worth of false starts and honestly, it deserves a post all its own. It's been a long, long while since a piece of writing spoke to me so completely, so heart-breakingly and heart-achingly. I don't even know where to begin.

your top is SO COOL! so, i discovered upstate and of a kind from you a while back and i've really wanted one of their tops since they released (i even wrote a blog post about it haha)... but it's hard to justify a silk crop top though! anyways, that's besides the point. it that really an "of a kind" one? because i thought they were all more whitish but yours is even radder than the pictures on of a kinds site. i totally want one that's darker more like yours, did you have to ask for it special or something?

thanks so much for introducing me to them :)

Have you read Precious Bane, also by Mary Webb, one of the most stunning books I've ever read. I will have to read Gone to Earth.

What a gorgeous bit of shibori! And I'm glad to see Mary Webb getting a bit of love as I grew up in Shropshire, where Gone To Earth is set. And like the commenter above me I have to recommend Precious Bane.

That top is totally amazing, I would also love to try and tie dye one myself. Currently in Africa stocking up on fabric and they have a marble dyed fabric which is quite similar. I have photos on my blog, http://teresasglobaladventures.wordpress.com/
