FADE TO PINK

How long has it been now since we first set eyes on Dree here and her cotton-candy ombré mane? I left New York for the West Coast last summer determined to return with pink tips. Bought the Manic Panic and everything. But somewhere along the way I lazied out and slunk back east still not having lived my thirteen-year-old dream. A year later and first Kate Foley, now Lauren Conrad (ha!) are in on it again and I've got rainbows on the brain...

It's no coincidence that I've also had this ombré dyed sweater by Tara Lynn on my mind since she launched her beautiful new shop, Goodnight, Day. It's so chunky and tactile that I'm literally aching to touch it. Come to think of it--the last time I went home this past winter, I also vowed to learn how to knit beyond the confines of the ubiquitous, endless scarf. Ha!

In six days and counting I'll be home once more, and this time the tips are HAPPENING. If I end up feeling more like a six year old who got crazy with the Kool Aid than a rebel without a cause, I'll just lop 'em off and start fresh. I might have to wait until winter to figure out the whole knitting thing, but in the meantime, Tara-Lynn is providing me with wishlist-worthy inspiration.

i know this exact feeling! i have wanted a little pink in the hair forever! did you see rachel mcadams in vogue a couple years back? it looked so good on her! i also recently watched a how to video on just using pigment like mac eye shadow to do pink for just a few days! i say go for it though! love the sweater too! xx

Now I just want to wear ombre everything. And try and knit a giant knit jumper. As if I don't have enough unfinished projects... Excited about your hair!

i've been thinking about it a ton, lately, with the idea that my hair is too fucking long (now passing my waist- wtf!) so if it looks horrible i can chop it. i'm almost looking for an excuse to be forced into a haircut.

i'm not sure it'd look so great with dark hair, but if you have any color suggestions for after i bleach the tips, throw 'em at me!

life is happy: I was assisting on a shoot a couple weeks ago where the hair stylist was using all sorts of bright, temporary hair sprays on the model, and she spritzed my ends with some hot, hot pink. I'm not sure what the brand was, but it seemed a little higher-end (and longer lasting) than the sort of standard, Halloween-y type stuff. Seemed pretty perfect for experimenting/trying out for a weekend!

Suzy: I'm right there with you, I've been growing my hair for ages now and I really need to man up and get a trim, but I HATE getting trims--so if the pink makes me look like an idiot, all the better hahaha. I'm a HUGE fan of aqua blue on dark hair, like this:

Thanks for linking to that Tara Lynn ombre sweater... so gorgeous.
I love how the trends have circled back to my childhood lately.. pink streaks, crazy nail colors. What better excuse to relive it all again.

you would look just like the model you showed if you lightened your hair a little before you added the color, plus it'd probably show up better! Beware pink/red/violet never comes out! I've done this before and my hairdresser can still find remnants years later! I had a peek-a-boo panel.

Go for it! I had wanted red in my hair for the longest time and have never bothered to take that plunge.
