MAINE, PART I: ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

Maine! My camera battery was on its last legs this day, so I'm surprised any of these came out at all. We spent most of it driving around exploring Acadia National Park. Took it pretty easy on our citified-selves, hiking the trail (and off-trailing it a bit for some rock clambering) from Newport Cove to the Thunder Hole (not especially thunderous that day.) Then we drove up to the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard, and peered down across all the little islands like jelly beans in the bay. Everything reminded me so much of home, including the little woolybear caterpillar we befriended in the parking lot.

It had been so long since I had been in a real, proper National Park, the kind that overwhelms me and allows no room in my mind for politics or cynicism, leaving me in quiet awe of the continent I happen to have been born on. I hadn't yet experienced that feeling on this side of the country.
It was familiar and foreign, all at once.

These are beautiful. And I'm glad you had the pleasure of being free of cynicism and politics for a bit--that can be difficult! Our continent is beautiful, sometimes I forget, too.

Hi Siri! Are you coming with the Pains to Vigo (Spain) in July? That'd be great!! :)

Oh Elena, I wish more than anything that I was. But money (and commitments...but mostly money) wont allow. Have a great time though.

Elena: Every time the Pains go to Spain they have the BEST time! Which is why I'm especially jealous :n ) I know they're looking forward to playing there.

Windswept is definitely a good way to describe where we were in Maine. I'm excited to share pictures of where we stayed in Bar Harbor, it was the sweetest little B&B. And we got wild blueberry pancakes! Up next ;n )

So beautiful. I've always wanted to visit Maine, and this only increases that desire. The similarities it seems to share with my own beloved Pacific Northwest coastline fascinates me. Photos of Maine always look familiar to me, but not, at the same time (if that makes any sense).

I completely know what you mean! When I said it reminded me of home, I was talking about the San Juan Islands :n )

It was all sooo familiar but at the same time off, it felt good and sad and funny all at once. If we had a lobster industry in the PNW it would basically be the same place haha!
