Nature Sandwich

Next time I see someone littering in this city, I will close my eyes, breath deeply, count to ten, and imagine punching them square in the face with one of these.

Oh, and also they are just pretty.

:n )

Growing up I heard my mom say "litter bug" so much at other people in 1980's/ early 1990's NYC that I though it was a real bug. I even like picking up litter on far away beaches. Go to Sprout and Home! They have so much moss (and terrariums I made) and flowers and pretty things. The first time I walked in I kind of though- Oh this must be what Siri's flower island is like.

Hi ringo :)
if you don't mind i just have a veryy quick question to ask!
i've been an avid reader of your blog for quite some time, i absolutely love it! :D

back to the question-
i understand that you love Cat Stevens, right? well, i've very recently started listening to him and have fallen in love with his music.. simply incredible! i've been watching some documentaries about his transition into Islam (mainly this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcgCdn8I8kU) and there seems to be a very negative view from alot of the previous listeners of his music towards this change in religion.

i'm actually really curious as to what you might think, as i am a muslim and i love both his music from his cat era, and his islamic teachings and songs now.
did this change in religion change your perception of him in any way?

sorry for this long comment,
i just really want a first-hand view from someone who listens to him and isn't muslim :)

thankyouuu
& LOVE the blog! keep it up!

all the love

Oh wow. I wonder if you have to water it? It'd be cool if it was just astro turf.

On the website there's actually a picture of the guy watering one, so yep, they're the real deal! Astro turf would be a good idea for those of us with less-than-green-thumbs though...

Shayda, to answer your question:

I'm so glad you shared that link with me! I feel like anyone who is a fan of his work as Cat Stevens should see that program. I think that a lot of the negative light that has been shed on his transition to Islam, and his subsequent denouncement of his former musical work, is due to a misunderstanding of his motivations for this change. Watching the man himself speak about his transition from pop star to piety and philanthropy, it seems pretty clear to me that the choices he made were based on solid, sane, personal reasoning. I feel like people who are lacking the full informational picture find it all too easy to label him a some sort of religious whacko, but he is clearly nothing of the sort.

Personally, I don't subscribe to any sort of religion, and I am honestly rather skeptical of organized religions as a whole. But I also firmly believe in a person's right to self determination, as long as their choices do no harm to others. For me, the music of Cat Stevens is so incredibly beautiful and moving that the man behind it all is almost a moot point. I guess I've always found it easy to separate a person, and a personality, from their art. I feel like once art is created, it is possible to view it as something separate, perhaps even something more, than its creator. That's not to say that I no longer respect Yusuf, but even if I didn't I would still love his music for what it was, and what it is.

I hope that answers your question! Let me know if you have any more :n )
