Away I go

essentials

I'm currently in the midst of finishing up packing (I'm bringing waaay too much stuff, what else is new), and I thought I'd take the time to stop and consider a few of the small things that I find pretty essential to traveling. I'll stash the above things in my carry-on:

• Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Sunscreen (the only sunscreen I can stand on my face, and yep I checked, it's exactly 3oz., back off TSA...)

• A beat-up paperback, preferably recommended by a friend
• Plain Moleskine pocket journals
• Facial wipes (I like the above brand because they are both alcohol and oil free, meaning they wont dry out your skin or leave a nasty residue.)
Little wee iPod
• Nivea Creme (I think most of the reason I love this lotion so much is specifically because it comes in a little blue tin.)
• Strawberry Orbit (later airplane breath!)

So tell me, what are some of your travel necessities?

too many magazines ( can you say too heavy carry on) and rosebud salve

Cindy: I should have added both of those! One of the few times I allow myself to go hog wild and buy whatever magazines I want is when I'm traveling. And Rosebud salve really is one of the world's marvels!

bottles of water. with extra bottles of water! the tiny thimble glasses they dole out on the aeroplane are never enough! oh and i second the earplugs.

I suppose my addition would echo Ivanhoe's: WATER. Usually, though, I use a water bottle I bring through security empty (or jam jar!!) and fill in the terminal (and often). While some flight attendants will refill water bottles w their water, I try to avoid drinking plane beverages as the water is always bottled (problematic), and as far as I know ALL cans and bottles are put into the trash (!). Have you seen how many ginger ales get doled out? It makes me sad, because it's such a comforting plane bev, but...yeah.

Magazines, for me as well, are a special travel indulgence.

AND...I have these great woolen footsie socks a friend brought me from russia, that I love for security lines and plane padding around.

Extra pens! I write and draw a lot so there's nothing worse than not having an extra pen.

Frankly, I am addicted to chapstick and recently fell for Nivea's "A kiss of moisture". It freakin' smells like a dream and lasts a lot longer than other chapsticks I've gone through. I always wear it under lipstick on occasions, too.

You have such a complete, bare necessities collection of carry-on there!

Second the magazines, and add snacks! There is no limit because they're not a liquid! And who wants to pay ten dollars for the crap-ola they serve up there anyway?

Labello, back-up piercings, also nivea cream, but I lost my favourite tin, it was blue with cloud on it that looked like a heart, hair tie and a book.
