Once in a blue moon...

...is how often I wear pants (and I do, of course, mean this in the American sense of the word). They make make me feel painfully self conscious and exposed in a way that short skirts never do, but then, this is probably due in no small part to the fact that I insist on wearing only the slimmest of cuts. Hell, I'm a quarter Swedish--if it works for those Moderniteter girls, why not me right? Ah, my poor addled brain.

I would actually love to branch out and try a wider cut, high wasted 70's style, but I have yet to even glimpse the right pair, let alone get my hands on them. Oh, and pants are so expensive too! Another of my least favorite adjectives...

Those jeans looks great! Im the same though.. I wear skirts and dresses, hardly ever jeans, and when I do I feel uber self conscious!

I am in love with vintage Navy Seafarer dungarees, which aren't that expensive, and are high-waisted and flared. They are the most forgiving trousers, in that they look good no matter if I need to lose 10 pounds or zero pounds.

well, no need to feel self-conscious, because they look fabulous on you!

oh god, i basically don't believe in pants. i refuse to wear them. i would have to get all of my pants altered because i have a thick waist/large thighs and i'm so short, so the sizing is all messed up for me. but you look AMAZING in them and i love your hat! i want one just like it!

You pull off these jeans amazing! High waists are tough, but you look great!

PS- I WANT YOUR HAIR! I know that sounds random, but it always looks perfect! Jealous here.

floppy straw hat: check!

Mind if I ask where those jeans are from? They're pretty much perfect. Perhaps that's only because you are wearing them...

Also, the talk of Montauk reminded me of one of my favorite parts of 'Fishing with John.' Have you seen it - the one where he and Jim Jaramusch go to fish for shark in Montauk? It's completely hilarious. And I think it may be on YouTube.

blaize--yes, I know exactly what you're talking about! Somehow I have yet to come across a pair that fit properly, but my good friend has a pair, complete with some sailor dude's name stitched on them, and they are uh-mazing indeed!

emily--thank you (and thanks, everyone, for the pants encouragements!)! And the hat is in fact from H&M, it was about $8 and it is nice and floppy and compact-able, I just want to stick wild flowers and feathers in the brim!

sarah--yes, of course, you would have seen Fishing with John because YOUR RULE SO HARD! Oh man, my favorite has got to be the Willem Dafoe episode when they go ice fishing and "perish" from starvation. BRILLIANT.

you still didn't say where your pants are from?!?

i have to agree with you, pants are so much harder to wear/find.
dresses sometimes seem to drop out of the sky.

like it or not, i think you look rad in pants! but i totally get what you say about feeling rather self-conscious in some pairs. if you still want to go for a wider cut (which is so much more comfortable!), maybe try h&m. i found a great pair there.

love your hat, btw!

oh shoot, sorry! The pants are from American Apparel, they're just the regular old slim slacks, but I took matters into my own hands and sewed them much skinnier :n )

I'm the same way! I want to try high waists and wide leg but then I always think, "that's just too much pants for one girl." But it looks super cute on you!

I think I wear pants once or twice a month, I know how you feel! I can't believe those are slim slacks, they look fab!

Pants ARE evil.

That being said, I had to buy a pair for work and found high-waisted, wide legged pants at Old Navy for around $20. I too wanted to try out the trend without spending too much (in case they looked crazy) and I needed pants anyway. They are almost as good as a skirt, because there is so much fabric at the bottom!

funny you feel more exposed in tight jeans than skirts. Hmmm how would you feel in a bandage skirt?
You can find high waisted wide leg jeans in high street shops; I recently found great ones at Forever21.
