Hooray Oscar season!!
Ah Tom Ford...is there anything he can't do?? Seriously though, I am extremely excited to see this movie, the designer's directorial debut, when it comes out here in December.
Actually, it opens on the same day as another film I am really looking forward too, My Son, My Son What Have Ye Done?, directed by Werner Herzog. I didn't know much about Herzog until I read Herzog on Herzog for school this spring, and ever since I've been in complete awe of the man's sheer will power and determination when it comes to film making. All I really know about Ford is that he's generally very tan and well oiled, headed Gucci for ten years and knows how to tailor a damn sharp suit. This one's gonna be a looker, I can tell you that much!

satchel up

On the one hand, I feel like the recent craze for everything Navajo-print might be getting a little bit out of control. On the other hand, I don't give a whooping funt 'cuz I still think it's hot shit. Accordingly, I just wrote a little love letter to this Penfield masterpiece over on the FADER blog.
P.S. That's me above, in the flesh, in the FADER office! I feel like it's been far too long since I showed my face around here...guess this is the closest we're gonna get for now. Many thanks to John Francis Peters for the excellent photo.

more than pants

I grew up in a household that fostered a great deal of love and respect for astronomy and outerspace. I remember sleeping outside in the summer to catch meteor showers at their peak, and gazing at Hale-Bopp comet through a telescope as big as I was. The cosmos are damn gorgeous, which was why I got so excited by that photo of those amazing stardust/galaxy pants.
Turns out, that was just the tip of the iceberg: apparently, Risto Bimbiloski has a whole line of amazing, outrageous galaxy printed apparel.

Space parka!

Guuuuh, I love these beyond words. Space. Shorts.

This is my favorite, and quite seasonally apropos--a night sky cashmere scarf. I would wear this every day.
Sadly, all of the many beautiful space-printed wares (bomber jacket, leggings anyone?) are more than a little out of my price range. Meaning I might have track down this Zara version instead:

All things considered, not so bad a compromise--you have to admit, it's still pretty outta this world!

grrreat!

My recently realized affection for leopard pring has become something of an embarrassment, especially considering my essentially life-long disavowal of animal prints up until this point...I know I know, it's more than a bit trendy but...oooh it just looks so good! I have an amazing vintage leopard print T-shirt dress on hold at a certain Williamsburg buy/sell/trade store that shall remain anonymous. If I go there to pick it up this weekend and find that it's been put back and sold, I think I will literally weep!
Still not going anywhere near zebra print though.
Yet.

d-i-wow

I'm totally in awe of these handmade shoe accessories, made by the Vamoose and inspired by all those beautiful velvet and suede bows on the Chloé A/W 09 runway. Actually...I'm pretty much in total awe of everything this girl does, so check it out!
